Dooney’s Kitchen LIVE IN ABUJA – courtesy Red Chilies restaurant

You hear about things like this, you don’t think they will happen to you this quickly. A part of me always wished to join the jet set blogger crowd where you get flown around to some of the best places in the world. I follow @melissackoh on Instagram and that woman has finally made me succumb to envy. LMAO!!!! Geez, her life is just so fabulous and she is a fashion blogger, doing what she loves and working with these top brands who happily fly her anywhere to attend their events. I look at some of her posts and sigh. My Instagram feed straight up is filled with people who inspire and challenge me. I was looking at one of Melissa’s post in some fantastic location recently, only to read an email a few hours after. The Secret calls it the universe winking at you.

Red Chilies restaurant asked if i could attend their grand opening, guest appearance that kind of thing you think only happens to celebrities. I shared the story of Instagram.

So, when the email from @redchiliesrestaurant came in, I typed the standard, “I sincerely appreciate the offer, but I don’t live in Nigeria”. Then the response came back almost immediately. “We know you don’t, but we would still like you to come and all arrangements would be made”. The kind that made the look at my phone, tilt my head and thin huh, did I just read that properly. You want to fly me down to Abuha, wait what!!!!! Back and forth, back and forth emails, ticket confirmed…….The End. I am only around for the weekend, but it would be lovely to see as many Abuja Tribers i.e. #TheHumansof DK at this opening. There will be cooking, grilling and spiralising. So, I guess this opens me up for booking right? Anywhere there is food, my skinny legs and I will get there. Lol

So, this happened. It is a semi common assumption that I live in Lagos. Lord knows how many people excitedly send me an email and go aaaaaaw, I thought you lived in Lagos. So, when the email from @redchillies.restaurant came in, I typed the standard, "I sincerely appreciate the offer, but I don't live in Nigeria". Then the response came back almost immediately. "We know you don't, but we would still like you to come and all arrangements would be made". The kind that made me look at my phone, tilt my head and think huh, did I just read that properly? You want to fly me down to Abuja, wait, what!!!! Back and forth, back and forth, ticket confirmed……..The End. Only around for the weekend. It would be really lovely to get to see as many Abuja Tribers #thehumansofDk at this opening. There will be cooking, grilling and Spiralising ???. #jetsettingDKBusinessTrip #onefortherecordbooks. So, yes people, yours truly is going to be in Abuja on Saturday. They want a signature dish and some nibbles you guys can munch on. I will be bringing my Spiraliser for a surprise. You just watch and see, it is going to start a trend, and you’ll start seeing Spiralised foods at events. The movement that is Dooney’s Kitchen. I hope you guys in Abuja come out en masse, i would really love to meet as many of you. I started the hashtag #thehumansofDK for you guys to share your stories with food, family and the kitchen.

#dooneyskitchen live in Abuja on Saturday. I always seem to go back to Abuja for business trips. This makes the 3rd. The first two, my University asked if I wanted to come with them for a marketing trip in Nigeria. Errrr, heck yeah. My mum called it, Plymouth is paying back some of the school fees they paid ??. Big Oladunni, always the Ijebu woman. She's excited too, even though I'm not going anywhere near Lagos. Well or am I ??. Lagos, Tribers, stay tuned. There is something about that town. I fell in love with it at first sight. Lived there for two and a half years, before Mama Charlie land came calling. I hope I see many of you there. It really would be lovely to put faces to the IG handles and to just connect with you guys. #thehumansofDk. You've all come to somewhat know me through my stories, now we can meet and chat like we've known each other forever ???. So, I guess this opens me up for booking right. Anywhere there is food, my skinny legs and I will get there ???. #DKonthemove #jetsettingDKBusinessTrip

About Dooney

Dooney is the blogger, recipe developer and photographer for Dooney's Kitchen. I spend my days trying to figure out creative ways to redefine Nigerian food, either by creating a new dish itself using ingredients in ways that have never been used before, or changing the approach to Nigerian cooking using kitchen gadgets.

Hi Dooney, congrats to you on this achievement! Many more to come IJN! From the bottom of my heart I want to say a big “thank you” to God for making me find ur blog! And thank God for the woman you are; an inspiration! I’m not married yet o but the way it is doing me, I’m praying for a man that loves good food every time I tell myself “slow down” with the cooking, I see something new on ur blog again and I’m off to the market. It was something your profile that drew me in; I’m in IT field and work is usually busy, but I told myself, if Dooney can find time to make these beautiful meals then I can too…. See you wont understand, just know that somehow ur blog isn’t just helping people in the kitchen alone, and when I say this I know I’m not speaking for myself alone!

God bless you and take you higher!
You will soar to heights you never imagined!
This is just the beginning of the invitations, expect more!

Congrats sis! This is the beginning of greater things to come in your life in Jesus name, Amen!
So so sorry I missed it – I was raving to a neighbor [who is a caterer] about my Dooney again yesterday, when she asked if you had a samosa recipe. Trust me I dug it out this morning, and only just saw this via the tweet feed on the left of your blog. Imagine I missed this by a whole week! Would have made it there, by hook or crook.
I am sure you had a lovely time. Pls give us heads up earlier again, when you are coming to Abuja o! Would love to meet you and gush over you in person. Hubby too. God bless!

Nigerian food, is bold, multi faceted, rich, colourful, spicy and with varied nuances, as you move from tribe to tribe. To describe Nigerian cooking, one would say it is fiercely traditional and somewhat dogmatic, but Dooney’s Kitchen proposes to simplify methods and steps that have been passed from generation to generation whilst also challenging some of these methods using Technology. The New Nigerian Cookery isn’t just about creating a New Nigerian Kitchen, or should we say a more technology aware Nigerian cooking experience, but it encompasses redefining recipes too. Come along on the journey, and welcome to one of the best online resources for Nigerian food.
