Ingredientspaedia

I have always wanted to publish a comprehensive catalogue of Nigerian Ingredients. I am what you call a fixer. I see a problem, I fix it. Of all the wonderful features of this site, this probably tops the cake. Rather than have a couple posts explaining Nigerian ingredients, I chose to create a dedicated page, where you can peruse to your hearts content. Before you go clicking on 4, 5, different sites looking for what an ingredient looks like, or what it is used for, just think of Dooney’s Kitchen Ingredientspaedia.  Eventually, I hope this will be go to, Encyclopaedia for Nigerian Ingredients. Think of it as the Google of the Nigerian foodiepaedia. The items on this page have been carefully, categorised (self explanatory) and beautifully photographed. As I come across new ingredients, this page will be updated regularly.

As part of  Dooney’s Kitchen’s efforts to introduce Nigerian food in mainstream international cooking, I have introduced a category called Alternative Nigerian. In this section you will find ingredients which serve as substitutes when the original choice is not available, hence you can still enjoy your favourite Nigerian dishes, all you just need is to switch a couple of ingredients around. On the other hand, if you are New to Nigerian food, welcome on board. This page de-mystifies many things about Nigerian ingredients, and this category will help you transform items from your local supermarket into delicious home cooked Nigerian meals.

This is still work in progress, you can imagine how much work it took to even get it to this point, so if some ingredients are lacking content, just bear with me please, while I create content and update the page. You can also be a contributor too you know, if you come across an ingredient that hasn’t been featured here, just take a very clear picture, send it to me and it will be published, with reference to you. Please see this page as a collaborative effort that will benefit all of us. Thanks a bunch.

Nigerian food, is bold, multi faceted, rich, colourful, spicy and with varied nuances, as you move from tribe to tribe. To describe Nigerian cooking, one would say it is fiercely traditional and somewhat dogmatic, but Dooney’s Kitchen proposes to simplify methods and steps that have been passed from generation to generation whilst also challenging some of these methods using Technology. The New Nigerian Cookery isn’t just about creating a New Nigerian Kitchen, or should we say a more technology aware Nigerian cooking experience, but it encompasses redefining recipes too. Come along on the journey, and welcome to one of the best online resources for Nigerian food.
