These are food items you will find in any Nigerian cook’s home. The concept of a pantry is not new to Nigeria, but we have our own term for it, simply called store. it is a room in the house, aptly named for storing all kind of items for the home, mainly food. Contents of a Nigerian home store may vary based on food choices, location, tribal affiliation, but here are some food items that are ubiquitous to whipping up most Nigerian meals.
All purpose flour
Butter or margarine
Some kind of Pasta
Smoked fish and/or crayfish
Nigerian Soup Staple flours such as semolina flour, elubo, poundo yam flour, fufu
In the fridge/freezer you will find
Variety of meats
Red bell peppers
Chili – in the form of ata rodo (scotch bonnet/habanero pepper)
