This is probably the kitchen task that I HATE the most. My mother made us peel baskets and baskets of potatoes that as soon as I became old enough to challenge her, I only bought already fried chips from confectionaries. It was the first thing I jumped about when I moved to England and could buy pre-cut chips.

My sister loooves potato chips, almost to an obsession. Like with most 2nd daughters, the menial tasks in the kitchen were left to her, which she hated, except one. Peeling potatoes. This girl loved potato chips so much, sometimes she started at 11pm or even midnight to make chips for herself. If you caught a whiff of chips frying and asked her for some, she would give you one look ehn, hand you potatoes with a knife and tell you to make your own ?. I would beg and beg and this girl will count the chips for me, telling me she didn't add my portion to it, so I should be happy with what she was willing to spare. Give her a basket full & she would peel for Africa. We grew up in Nigeria & at that time, we had no access to already pre cut chips, so everything was done by hand from scratch. On the days Big Oladunni announced that we were having fish or chicken & chips for dinner, I would groan but my sister would dance with glee. When she moved here she was eating chips 2ce a day ?. We had an assembly line of sorts. She would peel, I would chip and salt, then Mummy would fry. My brother the youngest child was the first to eat and it annoyed me ?. I mean he did NOTHING, yet he would be served first. My mother's excuse; ehn, do we want him handling a knife or standing near hot oil ??. My response; no but he should wait until we had eaten, at least we were putting in the work, of which my mother and her partial ways will fry the chips, wait for it, serve herself a massive portion and call her son to sit down with her & they will eat from the same plate ?. If you grumbled, she would say "so you mean I can't eat again, I will have to wait for you too ehn, Madam Ola". When I pointed out that Yomi was eating too, she would say it is her plate, she can call anybody that she likes to eat with her ??. Insert me looking daggers at my brother ??. I remember those times & not with fondness. I mean we could be at it for over an hour sometimes, to eat chips that would disappear in minutes. Chai! Thank you Lord for technology. This potato peeler is a dream to have. #Kenwood has an attachment for this but I buy pre-cut chips, so no need. #deathtoManualPeeling ????
