Reflective feedback – a research project to analyse the impact of food blogs on Nigeria’s online food culture

Hello People, I hope you are having a fantastic week. I have graduated to doing research, teeeheeeee, and what better way to start than with one of my favourite topics, Nigerian food blogging.

I am conducting a research project for the University of Portsmouth. The Nigerian food blogosphere has exploded in the last 5 years. They have contributed immensely to Nigerian food culture, and the impact they have made needs to be researched, to discover insights, trends and future recommendations. One of the largest contributors to the success of Nigerian food blogs is Social Media. We are studying the link between technology and social media, and a crucial part of the puzzle is to understand from you the readers, how these food blogs have made an impact to your lives and to your cooking. It will be very much appreciated if you spend 2 minutes or less filling this questionnaire. Get your voices heard, we would very much like to hear from you.

Thank you so much for your time, it is very much appreciated. The link to the questionnaire can be found HERE. Get to filling guys and Share as much as you can. The more the responses, the better. The survey closes on Dec 11th.

Thank you so much for your time. Happy Cooking…….

About Dooney

Dooney is the blogger, recipe developer and photographer for Dooney's Kitchen. I spend my days trying to figure out creative ways to redefine Nigerian food, either by creating a new dish itself using ingredients in ways that have never been used before, or changing the approach to Nigerian cooking using kitchen gadgets.

I just filled the survey. It could have been better formatted though :). For example some questions could have been 0/week or once/month instead of 1/week options.

Nice one! Would definitely be interested in the publication once its live, I think it sounds very interesting.

One thing though, question 10, was a little confusing in terms of the options offered, not sure why there were so many buttons to pick when I assumed it’s sort of a yes/no question?

Other than that, looks good! All the best with your research work – always great doing research on something you’re passionate about! 🙂 x

Hi Dooney, I was wondering if you’ve done a post on the Nigerian Boli (roasted ripe plantains that go with fish, sold with roasted yams and pepper sauce). A familiar street food found mostly in the Niger/Delta regions, I’m sure you already know that. Anyways, I’ve been making it myself and it comes out nice but recently I’ve been craving the actual real pepper sauce it’s always made it. I’m hoping I inspire you to do something, the YouTube tutorials on it gave me unsatisfactory results. Thanks.

Nigerian food, is bold, multi faceted, rich, colourful, spicy and with varied nuances, as you move from tribe to tribe. To describe Nigerian cooking, one would say it is fiercely traditional and somewhat dogmatic, but Dooney’s Kitchen proposes to simplify methods and steps that have been passed from generation to generation whilst also challenging some of these methods using Technology. The New Nigerian Cookery isn’t just about creating a New Nigerian Kitchen, or should we say a more technology aware Nigerian cooking experience, but it encompasses redefining recipes too. Come along on the journey, and welcome to one of the best online resources for Nigerian food.
