Spiralising Nigerian food

Full introductory post about Spiralising Nigerian food, coming soon…….

Enjoy the pictures and the videos in the meantime.

Morning people. Remind me not to stay awake till 3am eating cheesecake, followed by Jollof rice and watching HTGAWM. What's up with that show anyway, like seriously?????? Anyways, exciting times coming this March. Last year was the year of the food processors, this is the year of the SPIRALISERS. Notice the plural. For my 2nd year anniversary giveaway in March, I am giving out these babies, and waaaaaaaaay more than 3 this time. Again, it is not location specific. If the postman can get to your address, or I have a friend in your country, I will get this to you if you win. I have had a phenomenal year, even better than the last, and I am looking forward to making even greater achievements this year. The announcement to win this will be posted on the Tribe site, winners will also be selected on the Tribe site and it will be a transparent process. No #electiongate. So if you haven't signed up, or told your friends and family to sign up to be DK Tribers, you definitely will miss out. Stay tuned. I have also got Vegetti's and Julienne Peelers to give out too. #funtimes #DKanniversary #letsspiral9ja #9jaspiralised #theyearofthespiralisers. Leggo!!!! ???. The site address: tribe.dooneyskitchen.com. When you do Sign up, to keep tabs, best to Follow the Announcements page, that way you get an email notification, when the announcement is made.

Using this video to share my experience so far. Not a brag post, but a thank you post. Months ago, someone wrote to me and said, you need to leverage your influence as a food blogger. I don't think it has dawned on you yet the power you wield. Do you know how many people switched from Maggi to Knorr cubes just because of you? I know friends who have even convinced their mums to switch. Women in their 60's who have cooked with Maggi all their lives. Then she said, you moved to food processors and everybody I know bought one and so did a lot of people. Some even bought your exact model because they wanted the one Dunni uses. Kenwood hasn't paid you a penny. You are the kind of endorser that companies need. You put your name to something and people bring out their money to buy. Leverage it. At the time I didn't think anything of it, until I started spiralising. I didn't expect the phenomenal response at all and I want to say thank you to all of you for helping me grow that influence. Everyday I get asked questions about where to buy and which brand I have, messages of people who have bought one. I decided to test out the claims of that email, with Spiralisers via @homeonlineng and @oreservices. Funmi called me that evening overwhelmed. Her stock sold out in minutes. She couldn't keep up with the calls, she had to place orders for new stock, she got calls from all over Nigeria. Funmi said everybody wants Spiralisers because Dunni uses one o. God Bless you. I sat staring at my wall in silence and the message of that email from months ago, finally hit me. It was a very emotional moment and from the bottom of my heart, I want to say, thank you. Ade was saying the same thing to exhibitors at the food festival about the influence of Dooney's Kitchen. This video of someone using her Spiraliser, summarises everything. I am just a cook who loves to write. That's all. It will be 2yrs next week and it has been quite the journey. The timid little girl who preferred not to be noticed has grown a presence and a phenomenon. The comments, the referrals, the testimonies. You guys have so far given me the best 2years of my life. THANK YOU. With your support, I will only get better.

Keep an eye on the Tribe site. You are going to have to do something to earn it though. I've worked very hard this past year, so I would like to give out stuff to people who understand the concept. Sleep, what does that mean? Especially when something has been gnawing at your brain all day. They said you can't really spiralise mangoes because of the stony seed. Yeah sure. Like Estelle's song from Empire. "Try telling me no, one thing about me, I am a conqueror, and I won't accept defeat". #bowdownMango ???. like my grandma said, if it can't speak, it ain't smarter than you ???. …….and the photo bombing continues. The Nigerian Spiralised Salad. If I had to choose between this and using a food processor, which do you think I would choose? Nah, that is rhetorical question. Quick, fun and pretty. Just imagine the look on your friends and family's faces. Noodle like vegetables. Salad will be the first dish to finish this Easter. #NigSpiralised #SpiralisedNigerian #Spiraligerian #9jaSpiralised. As you can see, I am still thinking of a name for this movement. Suggestions are welcomed. ??? #thenewnigeriancookery. To purchase the machine in Nigeria, call Funmi on 08177102477 or email [email protected] and check out her page @homeonlineng. How to cook Spiralised potatoes. Works for Yam too. Lightly sat and then sauté in a pan, when they start to turn translucent, cover the pan to allow steam to finish cooking and Voila!!!! In under 5 minutes, you have perfectly cooked Potatodooles. You can also deep fry for chips. Nigerian Spiralised salad loading…..#Spiralised #spiraliser

You know "our salad" is basically what the "food network" people call a Chopped Salad. How I make a Nigerian salad. Going from my pictures, I use carrots, cucumbers, tatashe (red bell pepper), onions and now potatoes. One last one cabbage, and of course lettuce which sadly can't be Spiralised. Such a bummer ???. What do you add to your salad? Music commentary ? One Republic – I lived. Turning the volume down before my neighbour knocks on the door. An amazing song to cook with. #Spiralised #spiraliser

Starting my salad. Decided to keep Mr food processor in the cupboard and Spiralise instead. You can win one of the Spiralisers as an Easter gift from me in honour of the blog's 2nd anniversary. Stay tuned for details on Friday. I've got many to give out. #Spiralised #spiraliser

#backtotheSpiralisingmatter. Y'all know I just had to push the envelope a little bit. Ukodo is a Peppersoup dish with Yam and Plantain, preferably green plantains. So, I decided to use Yoodles and Ploodles. It was served complete with chopsticks, of which I have a 60% proficiency skill level, but I could barely manage to hold them up because I kept looking at the bowl, laughing and thinking to myself, you know this is crazy right ???. #ukodogoesspiral #Urhobofood #Deltapikin theNewNigerianCookery. I am going to try this for my next dinner party and shock my friends.

Spiralising Plantain ????. @oreservices stocks them

A photo posted by Dooney's Kitchen.com (@dooneyskitchen) on Sep 15, 2015 at 9:19am PDT

Should we call this Ploodles or Plantainoodles or Plantoodkes or, I don't know. Spy the Yoodles in the background. I combined both in a stir fry. I feel like a child at Christmas right now. I am going to be spiralising errrrrything ????. #Yoodles #theNewNigerianCookery #plantainoodles

A photo posted by Dooney's Kitchen.com (@dooneyskitchen) on Feb 21, 2015 at 6:47am PST

I haven't been this excited about a kitchen gadget in a long time. Presenting Yoodles. Yam Noodles ????. #theNewNigerianCookery

Keep the guesses coming

Putting my Spiraliser to good use. What do you think this was made out of?

A photo posted by Dooney's Kitchen.com (@dooneyskitchen) on Feb 21, 2015 at 6:02am PST

Still on giving the humble Plantain a facelift. In case you ever wondered, what happened to Dunni and Spiralising. She bought one of those her gadgets again and gave up ???. No I didn't. You see, the spiraliser I bought has a design flaw. You won't notice it until regular use and you think, surely there has to be something better out there, but no, they all have the same design. Well, until Ali, smart girl that she is decided to do something about it. She designed her own device and fixed the flaw, at least the major one anyway, me still thinks this device needs one more iteration to be perfect. The story of how I got this is so funny. From one disappointment to another, we decided it must be jinxed. @annerh6 can tell you all about it. Poor thing had to pay for this thing twice to be sent to me. It was a gift by the way, a reader like you guys who said Dunni, I have to get you something to say thank you ??????. Somewhere in the USPS logistics chain is a spiraliser that should have been delivered to me and got missing. #thedevilisaliar ??? Time to make some Dodo spirals ??????

Nigerian food, is bold, multi faceted, rich, colourful, spicy and with varied nuances, as you move from tribe to tribe. To describe Nigerian cooking, one would say it is fiercely traditional and somewhat dogmatic, but Dooney’s Kitchen proposes to simplify methods and steps that have been passed from generation to generation whilst also challenging some of these methods using Technology. The New Nigerian Cookery isn’t just about creating a New Nigerian Kitchen, or should we say a more technology aware Nigerian cooking experience, but it encompasses redefining recipes too. Come along on the journey, and welcome to one of the best online resources for Nigerian food.
